The purpose of this website is to explain the proposals for a new urban extension at East Witney, to put the case against the Cogges Link Road and promote the alternative of west facing slips at the Shores Green A40 junction. It sets out the merits of the proposals and outlines the guiding principles for the development.
This website is also intended to be a resource for local people who want to know more about the Development Plan process in Witney and West Oxfordshire. A Forum is provided on this site to allow these issues to be discussed.
The East Witney development proposals comprise two separate land parcels known as 'Cogges South' and 'Cogges Triangle' that adjoin the existing Cogges settlement. East Witney is being proposed for about 450 homes plus allotments, water meadows and a large community woodland. the scheme may also include a community heating scheme and park and ride.
The Cogges Link Road (CLR) is being promoted by Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) and West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) to relieve traffic congestion on Bridge Street. however it is very expensive (£17.4Million) and highly damaging to the environment, especialy where it crosses the flood plain of the river Windrush. The EWLC is promoting a much cheaper and less environmentally damaging scheme to put west facing slips on to A40 Shores Green Junction.
