EWLC AT A GLANCE

  • The purpose of this website is to explain the proposals for a new urban extension at East Witney. It sets out the merits of the proposals and outlines the guiding principles for the development.

  • Government house building targets require the construction of around 1,450 new houses at Witney up to 2026. The East Witney proposals can accommodate some 450 of these.

  • The proposals comprise two separate land parcels known as 'Cogges South' and 'Cogges Triangle' that adjoin the existing Cogges settlement. This land is entirely owned by the East Witney Land Consortium (EWLC).

  • Cogges South is proposed for 100 houses plus 3 acres of allotments and 35 acres of water meadow and public open space.

  • Cogges Triangle is proposed for 350 house, plus primary school, community facilities, open place and 40 acres of community woodland.

  • Being the closest site to the town centre East Witney is the most sustainable location for house building in Witney and should be the first choice of the council when deciding where to build new homes.

  • The EWLC is opposed to the Cogges Link Road £18.88m (October 2010) and instead is promoting the Shores Green A40 Junction Upgrade £4.08m (October 2010) as the best solution to Witney's traffic problems.

  • Shores Green is much cheaper £4.08m (October 2010) and much less environmental damaging but is just as good if not better than Cogges Link £18.88m (October 2010) at relieving congestion on Bridge Street and the town centre.
